The Taming of the Shrew
Please review the following information carefully:
The New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane, in partnership with Cripple Creek Theatre Company, will hold auditions for a production of The Taming of the Shrew, directed by Emilie Whalen.
Note from the Director:
A bawdy comedy that turns raw and heartbreaking, The Taming of the Shrew confronts the intimate makings of a servant. As Petruchio sets out to “tame” the full Katherina – and men vie for the affections of the dutiful Bianca – themes of disguise, subversion and the “costume” run rampant. The production will tour to untraditional New Orleans audiences (including a correctional facility), then open the New Orleans Shakespeare Festival’s 24nd season.
Seeking a diverse group of union and non-union actors with a strong command of classical text for this robust, in-the-round, and ensemble driven production. Actors of any age, race, or gender are encouraged to audition.
Directors from the TBA shows in the Festival season will also be present at these auditions.
All roles are open. The acting company will consist of 8 actors who will play all roles including:
- Batista Minola: Parent to Bianca and Katherina.
- Katherina: Daughter to Batista. The ‘shrew’ of the play.

- Petruchio: Gentleman from Verona
